History
In 1947, Bud Glassman and Art Lankin founded Safelite in a Wichita, Kansas, junkyard.
The business changed over time with the addition of Safelite Solutions, a third-party claims management service provider to large insurance and fleet businesses, and Service AutoGlass, a nationwide supplier of wholesale car glass components, installation supplies, and tools.
Belron, which serves more than 32 countries, is the largest automotive glass company in the world. It purchased Safelite in 2007.
In 2008, Thomas Feeney was appointed CEO and president. Thomas Feeney transitioned into a senior position for Belron North America in late 2021, and Renee Cachillo took over as President and CEO.
Safelite acquired Auto Glass Centre, “Your Hometown Glass Company” at some point in the early 2010s. Moline, Illinois, and Lincoln, Nebraska were among the midwestern locations of the company. The company is one year older than Safelite. Safelite had never before had a presence in these areas before acquiring these locations. For a while following, the original Auto Glass Centre cars—which were now marked with a Safelite sticker on the driver’s and passenger’s doors—were still in use. Eventually, they were replaced by original Safelite cars.
